The frist day of trade in 2014 could be a slow one. This is the end of a holiday week so many traders had planned on an extended vacation. Add winter storms in Chicago and New York and you've got the makings of a low volume trade day. We'll see the first economic reports of the year with initial claims, construction spending and the ISM index leading the way. The next few trading days will tell the tale of wether last year's market euphoria carries directly over into the new year or if the markets are going to have a hangover from the party in 2013. Trade strong and have a great start to the year.
As expected the markets finished a memorable year with a forgettable day, Not much trade to watch on Tuesday as the major indexes closed out a great year. Here's a run down of where the indexes closed for the year; NASDAQ +38.3, Russell 2000 +37.0, S&P +29.6, and the DJIA 26.5%. That's the best overall year for the the markets since 1995.
