Overnight the world markets continued yesterday's decline. Equities were broadly down in both Europe and Asia. This morning traders will be looking at the retail sales data to see if the holiday season was as merry as it was made out to be. This is also the beginning of the 4Q earnings season so traders may react to some of the early releases as a sign of things to come. Today's notable earnings include JP Morgan and Wells Fargo.

MONDAY RECAP

Yesterday saw a selloff in equities triggered by the upcoming earnings season that wasn't much fun to watch. The markets started the day under pressure traded into positive territory in late morning and then came under more pressure when no buyers came in. The S&P closed at its lowest for 2014 and worst in 2 months, down -22.60 at 1815.10, WTI settled down -.92 at 91.80. Gold was a minor bright spot closing up +4.2 at 1251.1.
