Equities started the week on a defensive note yesterday. The Nasdaq led the retreat down -50.40 at 4327.19, the S&P gave up -7.60 settling at 1849.40 and the Dow ended the day down only -26.08 at 16276.69. Out of the gate things looked negative. Traders were watching for any developments in Ukraine and trying to figure out how ugly the economic story coming out of China is going to get.
Asian markets ended their session down modestly and the European indices are trending positive in morning trade. Today the markets will have some data to gauge the health of the U.S economy. Look for consumer confidence to stay in line with last month's reading and look for new home sales to show a decline of about 38K compared to December. Trade strong.
